Insurance

We can offer insurance for values between £500 and £50,000 with each £500 increment costing £1 per week per £1,000 cover, chargeable per calendar month, along with storage. Insurance cover as detailed below can be arranged by us on your behalf.

Cover

Loss of or damage to property whilst in store from the following Insured Events: – Fire, lightning, explosion, storm, flood, burst pipes, theft accompanied by forcible &/or violent entry to or exit from the building, riot, strike, civil commotion, malicious damage, impact and terrorism.

Sum Insured

As declared by you in writing. The sum insured shall not exceed £30,000 unless confirmed in writing by us and an additional premium paid by you direct to our broker, Reason Global Ltd.

Basis of Claims Settlement

The replacement of property lost which provided the liability of AXA is not increased may be carried out in any manner suitable to the requirements of the Insured. The repair or restoration of property damaged in either case to a condition equivalent to or substantially the same as but no better or more extensive than its condition when new.

Archives

Where any claim includes documents, settlement will be limited to the Sum Insured (maximum £20,000 unless agreed in writing by us) but based on the cost of reprinting of/or reissue of/or reconstruction including where applicable, fresh research to obtain essential information.

Under-Insurance

If you fail to declare the full market value of your property, in event of a claim you will only be entitled to recover from the insurers the proportion of the loss as the declared value bears to the total value of your property – if you under-insure you may well suffer.

Pairs & Sets Clause

Where any items are part of a pair or set insurers will only pay for the actual parts which are lost or damaged. No payment will be made for articles that are not damaged.

Time Limits for Claims Notification

All claims must be notified to the Maidenhead Self Store immediately the loss or damage is discovered and prior to the removal of the goods from store.

Policy Excess

You are responsible for paying the first £50 of each claim.

E U Disclosure Clause (UK)

This insurance shall be subject to English Law. Any enquiry or complaint should be addressed in the first instance to the arranging broker:

If you are not satisfied with the way a complaint has been dealt with please write to Consumer Relations Executive, at above review your case without prejudice to your rights at law.

Exclusions

No cover is provided for the following:-

  • Jewellery, watches, precious stones, money, coins, deeds, bonds, securities or stamps of all kinds.
  • Curiosities, rare books or works of art, glass, china, earthenware, marble or other fragile or brittle objects exceeding £1000 in value for any one item.
  • Furs, perfumery, tobacco, cigars, cigarettes, wines, sprits or any other alcohol, explosives, livestock, growing crops and trees.
  • Loss and/or damage caused by wear and tear or gradual deterioration (including the deterioration of deep freezer units) corrosion, rust, wet and dry rot, shrinkage, evaporation, loss of weight, dampness, dryness, changes in temperature, flavour, colour, texture or finish moth, insects, vermin, latent defect or the leakage of liquid from a receptacle or container.
  • Mechanical or electrical damage or derangement unless reasonably attributable to physical damage from an Insured Event.
  • Computer and data processing equipment exceeding ££10,000 any one article.
  • Any consequence of war, invasion, act of foreign enemy hostilities (whether war be declared or not) civil war, rebellion, revolution, insurrection or military or usurped power.
  • Consequential loss of any kind or description.
  • Confiscation or seizure of goods by Customs or Government Agencies.
  • Loss, destruction or damage directly occasioned by pressure waves caused by aircraft & other aerial devices travelling at sonic or supersonic speeds.
  • Loss or damage from :– (a) ionizing radiation or contamination by radioactivity from nuclear fuel or from any nuclear waste from the combustion of nuclear fuel. (b) the radioactive toxic explosive or other hazardous properties of any explosive nuclear assembly or nuclear component thereof.
  • Losses more specifically covered by another policy of insurance.
